The principles outlined in our Human Rights Statement relate to and confirm key commitments and principles in both our Code of Business Conduct and our Responsible Procurement Principles. AvalonBay vendors and suppliers are expected to maintain, and also hold indirect suppliers accountable to, appropriate management policies, procedures and controls whose scope aligns to and supports our Responsible Procurement Principles. To support environmental sustainability and make progress with our long-term ESG commitments, we integrate environmental considerations into the practices and policies we use to run our business. These criteria serve as the foundation for our environmental framework. Renewable energy is an important component of our strategy to achieve both of our SBTs. This is why we are actively pursuing solar in multiple ways, including onsite common-area, onsite residential and offsite community solar. We believe that mitigating our environmental footprint extends beyond reducing carbon, water and waste. Understanding our impact and trying to protect and support biodiversity where possible is part of our commitment to continuous improvement of our ESG programs. Our Building Strong Communities community investment and engagement program focuses on issues relevant to our business: disaster relief and community preparedness, affordable housing and support for underserved communities. The American Red Cross has supported AvalonBay and our residents in times of need throughout the years. That’s why, since 2015, we have been an American Red Cross Disaster Responder Partner, donating over $2 million to-date to support the important work they do. Our national partnership also includes blood donations, volunteering, CPR training, our annual Community Preparedness Week and more.
