Since 1941 the Yazaki family has been wired. Yazaki Corp. was handed down from patriarch to sons and is considered to be the world’s largest automotive wire harness (the central nervous system for vehicles) business, holding a one-third global market share. The company comprises about 170 companies; more than half are outside of Japan (including Yazaki North America) in 45 countries. Its lineup includes electrical cables, meter and auto instruments, gas equipment, air-conditioning, and solar-powered systems. Yazaki sells chiefly to auto makers, and, to a lesser extent, electric power, gas, and general construction companies. It ranks among the top 100 companies receiving the most US patents.
