The seeds of today’s Weil, Gotshal & Manges may have been planted in New York, but over the years the law firm’s branches have spread far and wide. Founded in 1931, the firm has more than 1,200 lawyers at about 20 offices in the US, Europe and the Asia/Pacific region. Weil Gotshal maintains a full range of business-oriented practices, which it organizes into five main areas: business finance and restructuring; corporate; litigation and regulatory; tax; and trusts and estates. Clients have included CBS Broadcasting, General Electric, and HM Capital Partners. Weil Gotshal has served as lead law firm in the clean-up of bankrupt Lehman Brothers, whose Chapter 11 filing in 2008 shocked the financial world.
