During the UDA’s 60 year history, the U. S. dairy industry has been able to drastically reduce its overall environmental footprint. The communities that we serve deserve to know about the impact that our decisions make to the sustainability of our local dairy industry. We use the Stewardship and Sustainability Framework for U. S. Dairy to measure and report on our progress in the areas of environmental stewardship and social responsibility. Our farms emitted less greenhouse gas than the regional average. 17,420 cars’ worth, to be exact. Even though UDA’s farms used more energy than the national average, UDA’s farms emitted 10% fewer greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per lb. FPCM than the regional average. This difference amounts to 17,420 fewer cars driven on the road in one year!
