You’re more likely to catch a sub than a train at these Subway stations. Doctor’s Associates owns the Subway chain of sandwich shops, the world’s largest quick-service restaurant chain, having recently surpassed burger giant McDonald’s. It boasts about 34,500 locations in almost 100 countries. Virtually all Subway restaurants are franchised and offer such fare as hot and cold sub sandwiches, turkey wraps, and salads. The eateries are located in freestanding buildings, as well as in airports, convenience stores, sports facilities, and other locations. Doctor’s Associates is owned by co-founders Fred DeLuca and Peter Buck, who opened the first Subway in 1965.

Packaging Sustainability Packaging plays an important role in protecting food quality and enhancing the guest experience. At the same time, we recognize the environmental impacts of material choices and packaging waste. By designing our packaging with reusability, recyclability and end-of-life as top considerations alongside functionality and food safety, we aim to reduce natural resource consumption and our overall waste stream. We do this through product design, material selection and by supporting increased recovery. We’ve only got one planet, and we’re determined to take care of it.As Subway® works to do its part to move towards a more circular economy and reduce packaging waste, we have set the following goals related to packaging in Subway® restaurants: Strive to design 100% of our packaging to be recyclable, compostable or biodegradable. Increase recycled material content in our paper and plastic packaging. In partnership with our franchisees and their supply chain cooperatives, work to increase container recycling rates both in-restaurant and for take-away/delivery. Subway® proudly serves communities across the globe and is committed to choosing supply chain partners that support high standards for environmental, animal and worker welfare. In partnership with our franchisees and their supply chain cooperatives, the Subway® brand is committed to achieving sustainable and ethical sourcing and supply chain management. We support principles of responsible farming, fishing and animal husbandry – for the long-term sustainability of the earth’s natural resources and communities across the globe. We believe building and implementing science-based solutions to address the risks associated with climate change is important to the future of our company, guests and the world. As a global brand, we are reaching deeper into our supply chains and working to reduce deforestation and GHG emissions through our purchasing power and innovative design of our restaurants and offices.
