Supplying energy is one of the biggest sources of emissions and costs for our properties. In order to reduce their consumption, we consider those sustainability criteria which optimise the energy balance of our buildings, even as early on as during the construction of our logistics centres. Sustainable buildings are but one side of the coin, and this is why we are working towards consistently improving our warehouse logistics services. In joint projects with our partners and customers, we are developing innovative storage solutions. Our Tilburg (Netherlands) logistics centre is one of the most sustainable logistics centres worldwide – it was, in fact, nominated for the BREEAM Award in 2019. The solar installation, the rainwater toilet flush system and highly insulated facades provide, inter alia, optimum energy-efficiency At many sites, we have installed efficient energy filling stations for charging our battery-powered vehicles. Optimised charging cycles prolong battery life, leading to a reduction in the ratio of replacement batteries of up to 50 per cent. Sustainable logistics and economic thinking are not mutually exclusive.
