Hitachi and Mitsubishi Electric hope to foster a renaissance in chip making with Renesas Technology. When it debuted in 2003, the joint venture between the two Japanese electronics giants was already one of the largest microchip manufacturers in the world. (The name Renesas is derived from “Renaissance Semiconductor for Advanced Solutions.”) The company makes many kinds of semiconductors, including discrete devices, application-specific integrated circuits, microprocessors, memories, and analog chips; it is the world’s top maker of microcontroller chips. Hitachi owns 55% of Renesas; Mitsubishi holds the other 45%. Renesas plans to merge with NEC Electronics, forming the largest chip maker in Japan.

ESG/Ethical Impact

Our mission is to develop a safer, healthier, greener, and smarter world by providing intelligence to our four focus growth segments: Automotive, Industrial, Infrastructure, and IoT that are all vital to our daily lives, meaning our products and solutions are embedded everywhere. We developed the Renesas Culture in 2020, a mindset or a guideline of conduct that should be shared across the Renesas Group and all our employees. The guideline acts as the reference point for all our activities, behavior and decision-making, and consists of five elements: “Transparent, Agile, Global, Innovative, Entrepreneurial.” These elements build the foundation to becoming a company that responds flexibly to changes, solves issues, and continues to create value sustainably. Each Renesas Group employee can grab the initiative by embodying this Culture and incorporating it across various decision-making processes in all activities.
