Prairie Meadows is a Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racetrack casino located in Altoona, Iowa, United States. As a nonprofit organization, our gaming taxes and charitable contributions have helped transform the lives of those in our central Iowa community. Through our unique partnership with Polk County, we work to strengthen and expand opportunities, infrastructure, and services offered within the community. Our partnership enables us to reinvest nearly $26 million per year into the community to improve the lives of those who live and work here. From improving the health and well-being of area children to renovating and revitalizing city parks, our partnership helps the lives of thousands of Iowans who call Polk County home. Over the years, these funds have given life to the Highway 5 expansion, Greater Des Moines Urban Beautification Project, Wells Fargo Arena, and countless other projects and initiatives throughout the community. We recognize we are not alone in these efforts. There are public-private partnerships throughout the region that focus on strengthening our area resources and investing in our community to build a stronger Polk County. We applaud all organizations that make this community and the individuals within a priority. We are honored to be a part of this great community, and we look forward to helping move the needle of success for Polk County. More than 3,500 children with special needs between the ages of five and 15 reside in Polk, Boone, Dallas, and Story counties. The Ames Foundation recognized a lack of recreational facilities and opportunities for these individuals to participate in sports leagues. To better serve these community members, the Ames Foundation decided to build an all-inclusive playground and Miracle League Field in Inis Grove Park. Miracle League serves children and adults who suffer from physical or mental disabilities that may be excluded, whether intentionally or not, from conventional baseball leagues.
