Pebble Beach Company takes great pride in our environmental stewardship of the Del Monte Forest and adjacent coastline along 17-Mile Drive. Our goal is to manage our 5,300 acres of properties and open spaces on a sustainable basis so that Pebble Beach is available for the enjoyment of generations to come. Using advanced computer systems and hand-held radio controls, Company maintenance crews monitor golf course conditions in real-time and water on an as-needed basis, maximizing the efficiency of its irrigation program. The stunning environmental backdrop of the Monterey Bay is an integral part of the extraordinary golf experience of Pebble Beach Golf Links. Golf ball loss is incidental to course play, and we are actively involved in both helping to prevent golf ball loss and cleaning up errant golf balls. At Pebble Beach Resorts, we are constantly improving our efficiency and reducing our energy consumption. We’re also working to reduce our fossil fuel consumption with carpooling, hybrid and electronic vehicles. The Company has successfully reduced energy usage by 16% over the past two years through extensive retrofits and upgrades. This reduction translates to savings of 1,900,000 pounds of carbon emissions—which is equivalent to taking 160 cars off the road.
