For nearly 30 years, Passport Health has vaccinated millions of global travelers against potentially deadly tropical diseases such as yellow fever and typhoid fever. With nearly 300 travel clinics across North America, Passport Health is proud to offer broad access to not just travel vaccines, but also valuable information to protect international travelers. In 1994, Fran Lessans spotted a dire need to protect overseas travelers from tropical disease. As director of a university-based health service, she regularly referred clients to area hospitals for immunizations before their international trips. Clients would later return complaining about the cost and lack of information about the preventative care received. Information was scarce in those days. The CDC offered only prerecorded messages via long distance phone service, and few physicians knew much about travel medicine. Local health departments offered limited, misleading and often wrong information. Seeing this healthcare gap, Fran began developing educational materials to help clients understand how diseases were transmitted and discussed problems that clients might encounter while traveling.
