Monterey Mushrooms

260 Westgate Drive, Watsonville, CA 95076

” We don’t just grow mushrooms; we grow and develop people too!” ~ Shah Kazemi. Monterey Mushrooms is proud to provide fresh, locally grown mushrooms to your favorite grocery stores, restaurants, food manufacturers, and institutions nationwide. Founded in 1971, Monterey Mushrooms became a family-owned business when the company was purchased by Shah Kazemi, who began as an employee himself. Today, our 4,000 U.S. teammates are proud to grow more than 200 million pounds of fresh mushrooms yearly. Our humble family-owned business has been enhancing people’s lives for over 50 years. We have locations across the U.S., Mexico, and parts of Europe. In addition to fresh mushrooms, the company offers mushroom products packed in cans, jars, and in frozen sauces. The company’s biotech business serves other mushroom growers through its spawn supplier, Amycel, and nutritional supplement provider Spawn Mate.

ESG/Ethical Impact

From our growing operations and environmental impact, to our product development and the direction of our company itself, Monterey Mushrooms® is committed to sustainability on every level. At the end of every day, our goal is to be good people that grow good food. And that doesn’t happen by accident. Every decision we make promotes the long-term sustainability of our environment, our culture, our company, our values, our people and the people we feed. Monterey Mushrooms is the largest grower of fresh mushrooms in North America, with more than 4,000 employees in 9 locations, including Mexico, growing, picking, packing and shipping 200 million pounds of mushrooms per year. We maintain some of the highest quality standards in the industry through hands-on, home-grown management of our entire operation, including our own coast to coast distribution network, with the help of our affiliate company, Monterey Logistics. Fresh mushrooms may be the face of our company, but our farms are backed by an integrated network of subsidiary companies and operations created to support and sustain our business vision. On every level of our company, Monterey Mushrooms is focused on sustaining our brand, our industry and the love of mushrooms. The mighty mushroom is healthy on the plate and gentle on the planet, according to a study measuring the water, energy and carbon emissions required to grow and harvest fresh mushrooms in the United States. This study found that production of a pound of mushrooms requires only 1.8 gallons of water and 1.0-kilowatt hours of energy, and generates only 0.7 pounds of CO2 equivalent emissions.
