Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament is a family dinner theater featuring staged medieval-style games, sword-fighting, and jousting. Medieval Times Entertainment, the holding company, is headquartered in Irving, Texas. There are ten locations: the nine in the United States are built as replica 11th-century castles; the tenth, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is located inside the CNE Government Building. The first two Medieval Times-styled shows were developed in the late 1960s by Jose Montaner in Spain at Majorca and Benidorm. Montaner converted the barbecue restaurant on the family farm to entertainment and food venue where actors portrayed 11th-century jousting of knights of the northern Spanish and southern French kingdoms of Aragon, Navarre, and Perelada (stories derived from Montaner’s family history). Montaner claims to be a descendent of Charlemagne. Accounts indicated that Tino Brana, who was involved in the jousting scenes from the 1961 film El Cid, was involved in staging the jousts.

It is our honor and privilege to care for our animals and to be good corporate citizens in our communities. While Medieval Times is best known for its fun-filled and awe-inspiring shows, we also stand for more. We work within the communities surrounding our castles and beyond, to assure that chivalry is upheld. This has come in the form of volunteer work and donations, but one memorable trip to the Philippines stands out as a representation of what we stand for. With the $10 raised from every ticket sold on our Thanksgiving Day shows, we sent our Knights to the Philippines. They hand delivered relief funds to the Red Cross and helped to rebuild schools affected by Typhoon Haiyan. (All expenses covered by Medieval Times to ensure that 100% of the funds raised by our fans went straight to the relief efforts.) Our Knights are humbled for this opportunity and we are honored to share their experience with our fans.
