Part of MaineHealth, the not-for-profit medical center consists of a tertiary care community hospital, The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, and outpatient clinics. The 640-bed teaching hospital provides a variety of nursing and medical educational programs. Specialty services include cancer care, geriatrics, emergency medicine, rehabilitation, and radiology. The hospital conducts research through the Maine Medical Center Research Institute. The medical center was founded in 1874 with 40 beds.
