ESG/Ethical Impact

Serving more than one million meals to our guests each day requires abundant natural resources, which is why we are committed to sourcing food with care and protecting our planet for future generations. We lead in food safety and quality while also caring for farm animals and holding our suppliers to our Food Principles. With more than 1,900 locations, we view conservation efforts at our restaurants as the first line of action in managing climate risks and resource volatility. Climate change is a significant global challenge. As a business, we must prepare for both the risks and opportunities of a changing climate. Darden has taken action to address greenhouse gases (GHGs) from our operations and supply chain, and continues to develop strategic and tactical solutions to address climate issues. In 2020, we completed an in-depth waste characterization study to help us better understand what gets thrown away in our restaurants and what can be recycled. This allows us to identify areas where we can get better so we can continue to optimize waste diversion. We continue to track and monitor recycling rates across our restaurants and optimize waste diversion and recycling. We began tracking our energy and water usage in 2008 and we continue to focus on managing energy and water conservation efforts. As we continue to grow and build new restaurants, we remain committed to energy and water efficiency as part of our restaurant designs. That is why we design our restaurant prototypes using industry best practices, ensuring that each new Darden restaurant is outfitted with a wide range of features that optimize energy efficiency, water efficiency, recyclables and clean air. With more than 1,900 restaurants, we recognize the impact that we can make by continuing to optimize energy and water conservation efforts within our existing buildings.
