Lidl is a family-owned business grounded on a simple philosophy: that customers deserve the highest quality goods and groceries at prices everyone can afford. For more than forty years, Lidl’s unique approach has changed and improved communities across 32 countries, where Lidl has grown to operate around 11,550 stores and employ more than 341,000 people. In 2017, we brought our unique approach to the U.S. and opened our first stores in Virginia and the Carolinas. In less than three years, Lidl has won more than 500 awards for our unique products and shopping experience and has been recognized as a Top 3 U.S. supermarket by Food & Wine Magazine. Our U.S. footprint has grown over that same period to more than 150 stores across 9 East Coast states, with more than 5,000 U.S. team members supporting our growth.

As an international retail company, we recognize that Lidl has a great responsibility to the people we touch, the communities we serve, and the planet that sustains us. For us, assuming responsibility means working to address the questions today that will need to be answered in the future and acting responsibly to build ‘A Better Tomorrow’ for our people, customers and planet. Acting responsibly today for tomorrow is commitment that puts sustainability at the center of our brand, our future, and the fulfillment of our quality promise every day. Expanding Quality Standards We work on a daily basis to expand the quality standards of our product assortment. Our assortment policies rely on high-quality, sustainable products, and we document these attributes of quality through measures like transparent, credible seal initiatives. Each product in our stores that features a certification seal has met the specific requirements set by the certifying organization. These organizations set standards and best practices around overfishing, organic farming and production, sustainable harvesting, fair trade, and more. The labels you’ll find on our products are how we communicate that information—in other words, those small seals are a pretty big deal.
