When Islands founder Tony DeGrazier stepped off the beaches of Oahu after a day of surfing with his Navy buddies in the early 60s, he did what came naturally to him. He went searching for a juicy burger, a hot basket of fries & a cold drink. Twenty years later, in 1982, it was that sense of place & satisfaction he was trying to recreate when he took a little chunk of the islands & plopped it down right in the mainland of Southern California. It all starts with our people. We hire only the hardest working and most ambitious to serve under the Islands banner. Our commitment to you is to make your career goals a reality. It is the community that has shaped and supported Islands since our doors first opened in 1982. Therefore, it has always been our commitment to give back. From local school fundraisers and youth sports sponsorships to our Golden Pineapple Awards recognizing outstanding students, we’re stoked to say we give over half a million dollars each year to support a number of programs within our local communities. Continue reading for more information about each of the various programs below and apply to get involved! We’re proud to support local youth programs, including elementary and high schools, plus a variety of kids sports teams. We will design and supply a flyer that may be used to promote a fundraiser on a specified date, usually Monday – Wednesday from 4PM to closing. When it comes to the local community, we believe there’s nothing more important than the local schools. That’s why each of our restaurants partner with elementary schools to recognize a variety of students’ achievements. The schools are given a Golden Pineapple Award certificate to be given out by their teacher at their discretion. The recipients of a Golden Pineapple Award can bring it into any one of our restaurants for a free Gremmie meal. We believe that when kids are active, everyone wins. And that’s why we’re proud to support all kinds of children’s sports teams and programs in the community.
