ESG/Ethical Impact

Intermountain Gas Company, as a natural gas utility provider, has a significant environmental impact primarily related to the sourcing and distribution of natural gas. Natural gas is considered a relatively clean-burning fossil fuel compared to other energy sources, but it still produces greenhouse gas emissions, primarily in the form of carbon dioxide (CO2) when burned for heating or electricity generation. To mitigate its environmental impact, Intermountain Gas Company can focus on reducing methane emissions, which can occur during the extraction and transportation of natural gas. Implementing leak detection and repair programs, upgrading infrastructure, and promoting energy efficiency in natural gas appliances can help minimize emissions. Additionally, the company can explore renewable natural gas (biogas) options, which are produced from organic waste and can be a more sustainable source of energy.
