For nearly a half a century, EPRI has been conducting research to better understand energy impacts and advance technologies benefiting customers, communities, and the environment. Through collaborative analysis, environmental science, and technology evaluation, our expert research team develops tools and resources helping the global power sector solve today’s and tomorrow’s environmental and sustainability challenges. By leading collaborative and comprehensive R&D essential to the clean energy economy, EPRI is helping create a healthier planet for all. Improving sustainability performance has become an important indicator of corporate success, stewardship, and responsibility. Many companies publish annual sustainability and corporate responsibility reports to communicate their policies, goals, and ongoing performance on key sustainability issues. Notably, the sustainability priorities communicated through these reports vary considerably across the electric power industry. This study summarizes how the industry portrays its sustainability priorities through corporate reporting by investigating a sample of 25 electric companies, chosen based on their performance in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) and Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and their participation in the Electric Power Research Institute’s (EPRI’s) Energy Sustainability Interest Group.
