Founded in 1849, Davis Polk & Wardwell is one of the oldest law firms in the US. Having built a notable corporate practice early on, it helped J. P. Morgan (now JPMorgan Chase) form General Electric. With about 750 lawyers, the firm is known for its skill in litigation, securities, and mergers and acquisitions; other practice areas include real estate, tax, technology, and trusts and estates. Davis Polk has served such high-profile clients as AT&T, Comcast, General Motors, and Philip Morris. In addition, more than one-third of the firm’s clients are non-US companies or governments. Davis Polk has 10 offices in seven countries.
