Dairyland Power Cooperative has grown and evolved with its member cooperatives to become a $1.5 billion generation and transmission cooperative with 550 employees, 3,100 miles of transmission lines and close to 300 substations. Dairyland’s generation resources include coal, natural gas, hydro, solar, wind and biogas. Dairyland’s headquarters is in La Crosse, Wis. Dairyland is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative providing wholesale electricity to 24 member distribution cooperatives and 17 municipal utilities. Dairyland’s service area encompasses 62 counties in four states (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois).

Dairyland’s Sustainable Generation Plan provides a framework to shape our energy portfolio. Carbon reduction and system reliability are central considerations. In 2020, Dairyland’s Board of Directors approved a goal of 50 percent reduction in carbon dioxide intensity rate by 2030. The planned 2021 closure of the Genoa Station #3 coal-fired facility must be balanced with prudent resource planning to maintain a sustainable and affordable energy supply for members. Natural gas will serve as the bridge to a low-carbon future, supporting renewable energy investments while giving new technologies time to advance. Safety is elevated through new education and behavior-based strategies. All employees are asked for 200 percent accountability on safety: 100 percent for yourself and 100 percent for your teammate.
