Ice cream means cold cash for Braum’s. W. H. Braum operates a chain of about 280 Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy Stores in Oklahoma, Texas, and a handful of other states. Popular for its ice cream and other frozen treats, the chain also serves breakfast items, sandwiches, and salads. In addition, the stores sell grocery items such as milk, cheese, and other dairy products, along with baked goods. The family-owned company has more than 10,000 dairy cows and grows its own cattle feed. Family patriarch Henry Braum started the business in 1933, opening a chain of Peter Pan ice cream stores in Kansas during the 1950s. His son Bill later took over the business, sold the stores, and started his own retail chain in 1968.

ESG/Ethical Impact

At Braum’s, we are committed to doing things better. The Braum’s Dairy Farm in Tuttle is one of the largest dairy operations in the world. Each day, we are milking thousands of cows an hour, providing enough fresh raw milk for more than one million glasses! We are also the only major ice cream maker in the country to milk our own cows. Because Braum’s milk comes from our private dairy herd, we know what’s in it. Braum’s dairy herd enjoys a 100% vegetarian diet grown right on our farm. No growth hormones or antibiotics added. The fresh raw milk is transported to the Braum’s processing plant on our dairy farm, where we make all our dairy products. It takes less than 36 hours from the time the cow is milked until it arrives at your neighborhood store. We’re also busy baking cookies, muffins, bread, and more – fresh every day – at the Braum’s Bakery. Our trucks are on the road 363 days a year making fresh deliveries to your neighborhood store. Each is “3 stores in 1” with a Grill, Old Fashioned Ice Cream Fountain, and a Fresh Market Grocery. All our stores in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Missouri and Arkansas are located within 330-miles of the Braum Family Farm to ensure freshness. From farm to table in record time. Thanks to the unique way we process our Fat-Free and Low-Fat Milk, our milk is better for you than grocery store brands with up to 50% more calcium, protein and other essential vitamins and nutrients. Using a Mechanical Vapor Recompression Evaporator, we remove part of the milk’s natural water. This fortifies the milk naturally. Because it’s concentrated, it also tastes richer and thicker. Braum’s supports the community. The Braum’s Book Buddy reading program has cheered on generations of kids in their journey to become strong readers. This reading incentive program allows children to earn delicious prizes from Braum’s just by reading! We also support many local organizations through contributions and donations.
