Bidart Bros. farming operation has a long history in Kern County dating back to the 1930s. John and Frank Bidart began farming in Bakersfield right out of high school. Saco Ranch (pronounced “say”-co) at the time was nothing more than a small community with a train station on the main line of the Union Pacific Railroad. Through innovative techniques, hard work and some good old fashioned luck, the Bidart brothers were able to farm competitively and acquire land in Kern County, California. The farming operation in Saco Ranch started with cotton, but became more diversified over the years with crops including alfalfa, potatoes, apples, grapes, and nut orchards. The early lessons of succeeding through hard work and perseverance are prevalent in today’s farming operation. Still family owned and run by brothers, John and Leonard Bidart, the farming business continues to thrive.
