From the beginning Beef Northwest has always had the attitude that, with the right partners, 1 plus 1 can be more than 2. With that core value and focus on people, the company has grown into one of the nation’s largest feeding and backgrounding operations today. The roots of Beef Northwest trace back to the green pastures of the Baker Valley in Eastern Oregon where the Wilson family started ranching in the 1870’s. Wilson Cattle Company continues to be a main part of the business today . Starting with 5th generation cattle and businessmen John Wilson and Jim Wilson, who saw a need for finishing options in the Pacific Northwest for local ranchers, the first feedyard in Nyssa, Oregon was started. Through vertical integration, up and down the supply chain and the growth of employees the single yard has grown into four main feedyards located in Boardman, OR ; Nyssa, OR; Quincy, WA and 3 growyards in the Hermiston, OR area, with a collective, one – time capacity of 130,000 head. Beef Northwest also has extensive grazing operations for cows, calves, and feeder cattle across the northwest United States. While cattle are the core of the business the people are the heart. Here at Beef Northwest we pride ourselves on employing good people who are committed to teamwork, animal care and food safety. Our team is composed of quality, skilled and professional people who recognize our livelihood depends on the production of safe and nutritious products. This allows us to grow and take on challenges and be innovative while maintaining our high standards of animal welfare.

The cattle industry has continuously pushed for innovation and sustainability with many organizations and operations defining sustainability by their own terms. Here at Beef Northwest we take the approach to sustainability like we do with everything else; a continuous push to do the right thing for our cattle, our people, and our valuable resources. Our employees are also our greatest natural resource, and we support our local communities as a large local employer. The pursuit of improvement is one of our core values, this pursuit is a lifelong process of acquiring knowledge, skills and experience for the purpose of enhancing individual performance. Education is part of that process and is one of the best investments we make in our employees’ development. We are committed to focusing on models of sustainability. An example of this is the incorporation of potato byproducts in our feed rations. Potatoes are an important crop in the Pacific Northwest and many of the farmers we neighbor are the best potato growers in the world. When their potatoes are processed into consumer products at local french fry plants, we add value by utilizing the millions of tons of byproducts produced into a nutritious cattle ration. A way to ensure that the beef industry is here to stay is by providing a wholesome beef product that families can enjoy as a quality protein source. As markets ebb and flow, we are always looking for opportunities to add value to our products. Being a progressive leader in the cattle industry drives Beef Northwest to look at our business operations, the ag industry and consumer demands holistically.
