The Exchange, also known as the Army & Air Force Exchange Service, is a Department of Defense organization that provides tax-free shopping and services to an exclusive customer base of more than 12 million military members and their families. The Exchange is the 47th top retailer in the U.S. with more than 40,000 employees worldwide. We operate 3,700 facilities on military installations, which include retail stores, restaurants, convenience stores, franchises, movie theaters and more. Our organization is very unique, because it has a niche customer, our military service men and women, and retirees. We go where they go in an effort to “serve the people who serve us.” In 2011, we totaled $10.3 billion in sales. Two-thirds of our earnings go back to the military through Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs which improve the quality of life for our customers.
