AEye’s technology evolved from Founder, CTO, and President Luis Dussan’s work in designing reconnaissance, targeting, and defense systems for fighter jets. Dussan realized that a self-driving car faces a similar challenge: it must be able to see, classify, and respond to an object – whether it’s a parked car or a child crossing the street – in real time and before it’s too late. Luis brought together a team of esteemed scientists and electro-optics engineers from NASA, Lockheed, Northrop, the U.S. Air Force, and DARPA to create an intelligent sensing system to deliver military-grade performance in autonomous vehicles. The resulting 4Sight™ perception system leverages a software-configurable, modular architecture, embedded AI and active sensing to selectively focus on what matters most in a vehicle’s surroundings.
